Message in a Bottle {Short Story Shoot}

Ok people, I got this idea to try something new. Well, new for me :) So let me tell you a little of how this all came about. For a while now I would look at other photographers’ styled shoots and always wish I could do one of my own. So with limited funds, I looked at what I have in my hands. What do I have that I can make work? So I remembered that my friend Sharon still has her wedding dress and it’s an amazing ‘Maid Marian’ looking dress. So then I started thinking of what kind of shoot we could do and the idea just grew from there. And one night while I was waiting to fall asleep, I thought: Why not do a short story shoot? I’ll write a little story and then photograph the scenes. And things just went from there. For those of you who know me, I LOVE the sea and I always ask friends if they want to be photographed on the beach ;)

So yesterday me and my very brave friend Sharon drove out to Warden beach. It was BEYOND freezing when we got there. The wind was very nippy to say the least, but it would’ve been a crime to have driven all the way and not give it a go. So we got out of the car and squealed when we felt the wind. Sharon was so very brave and I just shot as many frames as possible before we had to get back into the car to defrost! We had to get back into the car 5 times. My hands became so cold that I couldn’t work my camera properly. The cold also made my brain hurt! And poor Sharon froze stiff to the bone! LOL! We were blessed with lovely sunshine though! But even with the bitter cold, we got what I needed and I think it was a great learning curve for me. Some of the photos look sunny, but believe me, it was NOT warm!

I hope you like my story and I hope it encourages you to just work with what is in your hands :)

So here’s the story. It’s more pictures than words. And please bear in mind that the photos were not intended to be all ‘pretty and candyflossy’. It’s meant to be sad…

Message in a BOTTLE:

It was the year 1682 and Ysabel was the happiest women in England. It was her and Arthur’s wedding day. She just married the love of her life. But their happiness was short-lived for on that fateful day for Arthur was called to battle at sea.Ysabel cried for her husband. Her pain was so much she waited for him every day on the cliffs, hoping he would come back and see her. She wore her wedding dress every time she went to wait for him, as a tribute to their love.

Where could he be? She waited for him every day till sundown.

Months went by and Arthur had not returned from the sea. The villagers whispered the men must have died. Isabel’s father was eager for her to remarry. He had political ambitions and already found a new husband. Isabel sadly had no option but to do as her father wished.

Out of her last desperation and her love she wrote Arthur a letter to send out to sea in a bottle. Hoping her love would carry her note to her beloved’s ship and bring him home.

 Sadly Ysabel never knew what happened to the letter or if Arthur ever received it.

 ‘Behind the Scenes’ ;)

We aslo did a quick few ‘bridal’ portraits while we where on the beach. Will share this with you later x
