Danielle’s 1st birthday spent at Home…

A little secret about me: I love shooting outdoors in natural light. But you live in the UK! Yes, I know, but the light here is very nice even if there are clouds in the sky. And I also hate using my flash when it comes to children because 1, they blink when it goes of and I feel bad for them and 2, my camera is big enough without a scary flash on!  So when little Danielle’s mom called me to book a family shoot on her 1st birthday, I was really excited, thinking that the weather should be nice by then. We planned a picnic type setup in the forest where the family would play some games and eat some cake under some bunting. YAY I thought! Unfortunately we are having some bad weather at the moment and on the day of her birthday it rained non stop! So I knew the shoot would have to be indoors. I’ve seen a lot of photoshoots where the photographs are taken at home while the people are doing their thing ~ being a family. It’s different to the normal ‘posed’ photos that would look like studio photos and I think it fits a busy one year old perfectly :) Plus I’m a mobile photographer (without studio equipment), so I don’t really have choice ;)

To be honest, I was nervous about the light and how I will shoot indoors. But as soon as I met little Danielle, all of my fears melted away. She’s such a cutie patootie and I enjoyed it so much spending the morning with them. It felt really special to spend the day with them and they made me feel so welcome. The morning was spent opening presents, playing with daddy and reading books. After lunch I was very sad to go home! I also had the most amazing email from Laura that just confirmed why I love my job. Meeting the Cheng’s really enriched my life x

From Laura: “Phenomenal! You had me laughing and crying when I watched through the slideshow. You really have a gift not only with taking great photographs but also catching great moments and creating them! Thank you so much for your hard work. Olly adores them too, particularly the ones of he and Danielle pointing!
You are now the official Cheng photographer :D
